Privacy Policy
Last updated July 30, 2026
Short version: LightReadr does not collect, sell, or share your personal data. Your imported book files stay on your device. If iCloud is enabled, book details, covers, chapter lists, reading place, settings, and saved recap summaries can sync through your own iCloud account. We do not run a server full of your books.
This policy explains what LightReadr stores, what stays on your device, what can sync through Apple, and how Recap so far works on supported devices.
1. What the app keeps
LightReadr does not ask you to create an account, and it does not include advertising, analytics, or third-party tracking.
When you import and read a book, the app may store:
- the EPUB file you chose to import
- the book title and author
- cover art and chapter information found inside the book
- your reading place and last read date
- per-book reading settings, such as font, theme, margins, and line height
- bookmarks, highlights, or notes if those features are available and you use them
- saved recap summaries created by Recap so far
2. Book files
When you choose a book from Files, LightReadr copies that EPUB into the app’s local storage so you can read it. The app does not scan unrelated files on your device.
Imported book files stay local to each device. If you reinstall the app or use a new device, you may need to import the same EPUB again before reading it there.
3. iCloud sync
If iCloud is enabled for LightReadr, some book state can sync across your devices through Apple CloudKit using your iCloud account.
- Apple handles iCloud and CloudKit under its own privacy policy.
- We do not have direct access to your private iCloud database.
- If iCloud is off, that data stays local to each device instead.
Book details, covers, chapter lists, reading place, settings, and recap summaries can sync. Full EPUB files do not sync through LightReadr.
4. Recap so far
Recap so far is available only on supported Apple Intelligence devices running compatible system software. When you use it, LightReadr prepares text from the book sections you have reached and asks Apple’s on-device model to summarize what has happened.
LightReadr does not send your book text or recap prompts to our servers. Saved recap summaries are stored in the app so future recaps can be more useful, and those summaries may sync through iCloud if sync is enabled.
5. Third-party services
LightReadr does not include third-party analytics, ad networks, or crash tracking SDKs. The outside services involved are Apple system services, such as Files, iCloud/CloudKit, and Apple Intelligence features when available.
6. Children’s privacy
LightReadr is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
7. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a material way, the updated version will appear here with a new date at the top.
